Sunday is always a holiday. Find out Why?
We always wait eagerly for weekends.
After long hours of working in an office, college projects and even in schools feel relaxed when Sunday is about to arrive.
But have you ever wondered why no other weekday is so awaited day?
Why Sunday is the only when there is a holiday?
I know you must have thought about it at least once in life so now finally here is the answer to which is very simple.
Why Sunday is a holiday in India?
Sunday is always a holiday because there is a story behind it.
When we(Indians) were under British rule there was no work holiday for any labor.
Laborers had to work all round the clock and the whole week.
On the other hand, all the Britishers would go to church on Sunday and offer their prayers.
Looking at this the leader of the mill workers who was an Indian Narayan Meghaji Lokhande presented a proposal of Sunday as a holiday for every worker of the mill.
His proposal was something like this “After working hard for six days, the workers should get a day to serve their country and society. Sunday is the day of the Hindu deity ‘Khandoba’. Hence Sunday should be declared as a holiday”.
So what do you think Britishers must have heard this and appreciated his thought?
Yup! you are right they rejected the proposal.
But as we know Indians never give up early on anything so Lokkhande also struggled a lot to get his proposal accepted.
Approximately after struggling for 7 years, finally on 10th- June-1890, the British government declared Sunday as a holiday for everyone.
Wasn't it interesting?
The moral of the story keeps on fighting and never give up, you will definitely get success one day.
And who knows you turn up doing something so special for the society.
Why Sunday is a holiday across other countries?
As I mentioned above that Britishers also went to church and offer their prayers on Sundays so similarly it s believed all across the west and another part of the world is that we should disconnect from the outer world an pray to all mighty for at least one day in a week.
Also, according to the International Organisation Of Standardization is that Sunday is the 7th and last day of the week.
So schools should also give a holiday to students so that they get time to engage in some other creative activities on this day and take a break from the routine academics.
They also get some extra time to spend with their parents.
Hope you liked this.
Do not forget to comment on what you about the concept.
